The Kawartha Competition Team began in the 2017/2018 season. Our long-time coach, Denise Harris, wanted to create an slightly more competitive atmosphere for those skaters that had the hunger for it. The team began with a small group of skaters from the Woodville and Lindsay Clubs, but quickly expanded to include skaters from Cannington, Beaverton, Fenelon Falls, and other surrounding clubs. After two seasons of running the team, some of the younger Woodville skaters began showing interest. In the 2019/2020 season, we created the Senior Kawartha Competition Team, and the Junior Kawartha Competition Team. That season, our senior team had 14 members, and our junior team had 16. These skaters would come together on Friday nights at the Woodville arena to get some extra practice time in, push each other to improve their skills, help each other overcome mental barriers, and to have some fun!
The 2019/2020 season came with the greatest amount of successes to date. After the regular competition season had commenced, the Competition Team program was ecstatic to discover that 7 of it's senior skaters had qualified for the Provincial championships. Although the 2020 Provincials were ultimately cancelled due to COVID-19, it was an amazing accomplishment for our skaters.
For the 2024/2025 season, we've only opened one program registration for the Kawartha Competition Team, and we will split the registrants into two groups once we have finalized numbers.
If you have any questions about these teams, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're always open to welcoming new skaters and coaches that are looking for an extra push.
