Pre-CanSkate
Best for: Young beginners who are new to skating
Minimum age: Skaters must be at least three years old by the first program date.
Pre-CanSkate introduces young children to the ice in a supportive group environment. Skaters work on standing, balance, movement and basic skating skills while becoming comfortable participating independently on the ice.
Skaters should be able to follow basic instructions and participate without a parent or guardian on the ice.
Required equipment: Skates, warm flexible clothing, gloves and a CSA-approved hockey helmet.
Program Overview: PreCanSkate is a fun, introductory learn-to-skate program designed for children who have never skated before or who are still learning to balance and move on the ice.
Each 30-minute group session focuses on essential skills including:
-
Balancing and moving forward
-
Skating backward and stopping
-
Jumping, and turning
Lessons are led by professional NCCP-certified coaches, supported by trained volunteer Program Assistants. Skaters learn through music, colourful teaching aids, hockey sticks, bubbles, games, and hula hoops to keep the experience engaging and motivating. Ribbons and other incentives are awarded as skaters achieve fundamental skills. The coach-to-student ratio is a maximum of 1:8.
Note: This is not a parent-and-tot program, and parents are not permitted on the ice.
Note to Parents
-
Parents must stay in the arena where their child can see them at all times during the session.
-
Skaters must never be left at the arena alone.
-
Please ensure that your children enter and exit the ice only from their designated gate.
-
Parents are encouraged to watch from the stands to allow our coaches to have the children's full attention during the session. Please do not stand by the glass.
